I just got back from Mexico a few days ago and all the beautiful apples I bought before I left were just begging to be used. I absolutely love the simplicity of crumbles, so I decided what better use for my apples & pears!

I love this recipe because it is so flavorful and can be used with pretty much any fruit you have laying around the house. The natural sugars in the baked fruit help sweeten the crumble with just a little little extra added sugar.

As an added benefit, both apples & pears are excellent sources of fiber, calcium, and many important vitamins and minerals, so you’ll feel good eating this delicious crumble!

Enjoy! -Michelle

Apple & Pear Crumble

4 medium apples, chopped
2-3 small pears, chopped
½ lemon, juiced
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 tbsp white sugar
½ stick butter, softened
¼ cup whole wheat flour
½ cup old fashioned oatmeal/oats
¼ cup brown sugar
¼ cup chopped walnuts (optional)
½ tsp each ground cloves & allspice
1 tsp cinnamon
pinch of salt

Preheat oven to 350. In a large bowl, combine chopped apples, pears, lemon juice,
vanilla extract, and white sugar. Mix well and let sit 5-10 minutes. In a small bowl,
combine remaining ingredients. Combine butter with other ingredients with a
pastry knife or fork until butter is softened and mixed well with all ingredients.
Pour apple mixture into a pie pan, then sprinkle the butter/flour mixture evenly on
top. Bake until apples are softened and bubbly, about 50 mins-1 hour.
